This Haitian Sangria is my favorite drink to make for family and friends, perfected over many summer parties both in Haiti and the US.
The first time I made this sangria, it felt like a trip to a Caribbean paradise. The deep red wine, special Haitian rum, and refreshing coconut water mix together perfectly.
Every sip is like walking through the colorful markets of Haiti, with ripe mangoes, juicy pineapples, and sweet oranges.
I remember serving this sangria at a family reunion in Port-au-Prince. The bright fruit colors shone in the sunlight, and the mix of sweet and tangy flavors made everyone smile.
In the US, it’s a hit at summer parties. The fruity aroma fills the air, and my friends love the tropical taste.

- ½ cup Haitian dark rum
- ½ cup coconut water
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 cup fresh orange juice
- ½ cup fresh passion fruit juice about 2-3 passion fruits
- 2 oranges thinly sliced, seeds removed
- 1 mango peeled and diced
- 1 pineapple cored and cut into chunks
- 1 lime thinly sliced, seeds removed
- 1 starfruit sliced
- ½ cup pomegranate seeds

Instructions
- Prepare the Fruit: Thinly slice the oranges, lime, and starfruit. Dice the mango and cut the pineapple into chunks. Scoop out the pomegranate seeds. Add all the fruit to a large pitcher.
- Muddle Fruit and Sugar: Add the brown sugar and Haitian rum to the pitcher. Use a muddler or a heavy wooden spoon to press on the fruit, releasing the juices and blending the flavors.
- Combine Liquids: Pour in the orange juice, passion fruit juice, coconut water, and red wine. Stir vigorously to incorporate all the flavors.
- Chill: Allow the sangria to chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours to let the flavors meld together.
