In my Haitian family, the kitchen is where magic happens. From a tender age, surrounded by grandmas, aunts, and my mother, I learned the art of turning simple ingredients into something extraordinary.
Among these culinary gems is our Spicy Peanut Butter, Mamba. It’s more than just a recipe; it’s a vibrant dance of flavors, taught with love and a dash of humor.
This peanut butter or mamba isn’t just a spread; it’s a piece of our soul, infused with the laughter and wisdom of the amazing women who raised me.

Spicy Peanut Butter Recipe | mamba Haitian peanut butter
Ingredients
- 2 cups unsalted roasted peanuts
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon of crushed Scotch bonnet or habanero pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (optional for creamier texture)
- 1 teaspoon of sugar (optional for a hint of sweetness)
Instructions
- Prepare Peppers: If using fresh Scotch bonnet or habanero peppers, remove the seeds and finely mince. Remember to wear gloves, as these peppers are extremely spicy!
- Blend Peanuts: Place the peanuts in a food processor or high-powered blender. Pulse until the peanuts break down into a paste. For a smoother consistency, continue processing. Scrape down the sides as needed.
- Add Spices and Oil: Once the peanuts have formed a paste, add the salt and minced peppers. If you’re using oil, add it slowly while blending until you reach the desired consistency. For a slightly sweet version, add sugar.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the peanut butter and adjust the salt, sweetness, or heat level to your liking. If it’s too thick, you can add a little more oil to thin it out.
- Store: Transfer the spicy peanut butter to a jar and store it in the refrigerator. The flavors will continue to meld and develop over time.

I was born and grew up in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where my grandmas, mom, and aunts taught me everything about cooking. Now, I live in the US, and I love hiking, reading, and making meals for my family.
